# How Clann works - a visual app guide

## Family timeline

Clann opens on a shared family timeline. Photos sit in the order they were taken, with month shortcuts along the top and reactions shown on the photos themselves.

- **Month shortcuts:** Jump straight to a month instead of scrolling back through a group chat.
- **Reactions on the photo:** Reaction badges sit on the photo, so you can see at a glance who loved it.

## Timeline filters

Filter the family timeline by who uploaded a photo, and order it by the date it was taken or the date it was added.

- **Date taken or date uploaded:** Date taken puts an older photo in the month it belongs to. Date uploaded shows what is new.
- **One family member at a time:** See everyone together, or narrow the timeline to a single relative.

## Photo view

Open a photo to see it full screen with the date, the child’s age at the time, who shared it, reactions, favourites and comments.

- **Age, not just a date:** Add a child’s birthday once and every photo shows how old they were when it was taken.
- **React, favourite, comment:** The bar under the photo holds reactions, favourites, comments and sharing.

## Comments

Comments open in a sheet over the photo, so the family’s conversation stays attached to the moment it is about.

- **Every comment in one place:** Each comment shows who wrote it and when, so you can scroll back through what everyone said about this photo.
- **Reply without leaving the photo:** Type a reply in the box at the bottom. The photo stays open behind the sheet.

## Share a moment

The camera button opens three quick actions: take a photo, pick from your gallery, or write an update for the family.

- **Three ways to share:** Take a photo, choose one from the gallery, or write an update when there is no photo.
- **Always one tap away:** The camera button sits on every main tab, so sharing never means hunting for a screen.

## Collections

Collections keeps Recently Added, Your Favourites and the albums you have made in one place, with a rotating memory at the top.

- **Recently added and favourites:** Recently Added catches you up on what is new. Your Favourites keeps the photos you have starred.
- **Your own albums:** Make an album for a holiday, a birthday or a child’s firsts, and fill it with photos from the timeline.

## Favourites

Your Favourites collects the photos you have starred into a simple grid.

- **Star a photo to keep it here:** Tap the star in the photo view and it appears in Your Favourites.
- **Open it from Collections:** Your Favourites sits next to Recently Added on the Collections tab.

## Explore

Explore brings together search, a shortcut for each family member and year collections, so you can find a photo by who is in it, what was happening or when.

- **Search:** Type a name, an event or a date to find the photo you are thinking of.
- **Year collections:** Each year gets its own collection, so an earlier chapter is one tap away.

## Simple view

Simple view is an optional, stripped-back version of Clann for relatives who only want to look at photos, like grandparents. Albums, search and account settings are removed rather than greyed out, leaving Photos and Settings. It can be turned on or off at any time from Settings.

- **Two tabs instead of four:** Collections and Explore are gone, leaving Photos and Settings. The camera button stays, so they can still add a photo.
- **Plainer labels, calmer header:** Months are spelled out in full, and the header drops the member, settings and notification buttons.

## Simple view photo

In Simple view a photo opens with two actions, react and comment, alongside the date, the child’s age and who shared it. Sharing, favourites and the other controls are hidden.

- **Just react and comment:** The bar under the photo holds a heart and a comment button, and nothing else to work out.
- **The same details as before:** The age, the date and who shared the photo still show, so nothing important is lost.

## Group admin

Group admins control invites, screenshot notifications, photo downloads, comments and reactions from one settings screen.

- **Photo downloads:** Choose which approved members can save photos and videos to their own devices.
- **Comments and reactions:** Turn comments and reactions on or off for the whole group.

## Notifications

Each kind of update has its own switch, from new photos, comments and reactions to sharing reminders and new family members joining.

- **A switch for each type:** Photos, comments and reactions each have their own switch, so you only hear about what you care about.
- **Reminders and new members:** A nudge when it has been a while since you shared, and an alert when a relative joins. Both can be switched off.

## Privacy and access

New Clann family groups are end-to-end encrypted by default. Earlier groups can enable encryption through an admin. Photos are not used to train AI. The screenshots in this public guide are demonstration content, not access to a private family album.
